Weekend Inspiration: A vintage find with a new home

This Weekend Inspiration comes from a new design blog I came across while braving the snow (yes, SNOW!) indoors over the weekend.

The "Alice Lane" blog is from a fellow designer from Utah (and a very good one at that) with a local showroom.

While poking around, I was struck by the huge resemblance to this Vintage Find from my trip to L.A. that I shared with you a few months back. And if it isn't the same piece - well, it might as well be.

This is the shot I got in LA from my post "L.A. Roundup - Oversized Outdoor Finds"

L.A. Roundup - Oversized Outdoor Finds

and here it is and according to the blog, it was part of an American Express advertisment.

I just knew it would be a perfect organizer and counter top and would have snatched it up myself if I wasn't headed back on a plane to N.Y. with 3 kids in tow.

Wishing you all a Happy Halloween and a great week full of spooky Inspiration!

1-2-3: DO THESE STRIPES MAKE ME LOOK FAT?

STRIPES

I think I am obsessed! I dream of stripes and how I can use them and find myself searching for different ideas and objects that have them. I just can't help myself.

I am not even feeling very picky (which for those of you who know me, that is definitely enough of a reason to call the doctor!). So, this "1-2-3" blog post is dedicated to stripes: in all shapes and sizes; colors and textures.

There are so many to choose from - but here are a few of my favorites..

Wide or Thin stripes?

Horizontal or Vertical?

Tone on Tone - maybe just with a Matte & Semi Gloss finish?

Strong Color Statement?

Asymetrical / Multicolored?

Maybe with a touch of Gold?

Or simply bring in the stripes through your accessories? Pillows, throws, ..etc

or stripes in the rug?

So what do you think? Which are your favorites?
Send me some pictures of how you have used them - I would love to hear from you!

Peek-a-Boo: Hotel Bel Air Redesign - Take 2

A few months ago I posted about the new redesign of the Hotel Bel Air, and now that day has finally arrived I thought it would be nice to post a follow up with some more pictures from the last few days of the great redesign led by the Champalimaud design team.

DAP 360: It's a Wonder

This week's Dec-a-Porter 360* look deeper at Chris Burch's newest endeavor. The venture capitalist, entrepreneur and ex-husband of designer Tory Burch, opened a new lifestyle/retail concept store in the heart of Soho, to great reviews.

C. Wonder -- the “C” stands for “charming, cheerful and chic” providing preppy Burch-esque colored fashion statement pieces for under $200!

Great Lighting effects and Bizazza tiles boldly highlight the counter

Once again though I can't help but feel inspired by the amazing design details that leave me feeling like a child in a candy store. High gloss lacquer, bluegrass cloth, lucite, dhurries, zig-zags and more ... these are some of the details that I had to share and can't wait to find ways to bring into my new design schemes.

Besides the jewelry and Vespa-like scooters there are plenty of fabulous home accessories to choose from at very reasonable prices.

of course I already brought one to a client's home! We couldn't resist these Foo Dogs for a quick pop of color.

So I leave you with these last few images of the chandeliers in this new Soho store. I love the creative use of fabric, metal and lacquered wood canopies which personalize these otherwise simple light fixtures.

Design is absolutely in the Details!

C. Wonder is now open at 72 Spring St., NYC, www.cwonder.com
