Kips Bay Decorator Show House - Part 2

Continuing the coverage of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House from yesterday with more rooms from the amazing designers that participated this year - all in support of a great cause. The Kips Bay Boys&Girls club helps bring joy to so many children every year, and has raised millions of dollars for this very cause over the course of the 40+ years.

Beginning today's coverage with the "Bamboo" Room designed by Sara Story, using her own design by the same name wallpaper as the overall unifying pattern against dark trims and black and white checkered flooring by FLOR.

The freshly designed wall sconce, adds another layer of geometric play upon the graphic patterned wall, and yet the art, and playful accessories are carefree and whimsical in their application which leaves the room all together with a very lighthearted feeling.

Strong literary messages abound,
within the on trend black and white palette in the bathroom

& a fantastical purple ombre custom vanity
adds the much needed pop of color and break from the checkerboard effect

Steven Mooney returned this private study to it's desired state of greatness, as you can see by the "before" shot - it was in a bit of a state when he was given the space.

"Before"

Using the soft and feminine Scalamandre wallpapers and fabric throughout the scheme, he was able to transform this private study into "la petite writing room"  that any woman would covet.

Stark carpeting underfoot, a Jansen Directoire Style Bookshelf by Jean Karajian Gallery and an antique Louis XVI Table Desk by Newel antiques tie it all together.

Lastly Robert Brown, who I wrote about after meeting with him at Kravet in the D&D designed one of the last (or first rooms) of the house .. transforming the old quarters for the existing live-in help, into a private entry lounge.

Kips Bay Decorator Show House - Part 1

The 41st edition of the Kips Bay Decorator Show house is in it's final week and an experience that many travel from far and wide to visit, designers aspire to be part of, and the media anxiously awaits to photograph as it is always such a fantastic place to spend an afternoon.

This year is no exception.

Couple that with the fact that it provides a helping hand to 12,000 through the work that the Kips Bay Boys & Girls club provides to children throughout the Bronx, now that is always a recipe for success.

Barbara Ostrom tackled this top floor office space, with existing built ins and walls that were in need of much "TLC", and brought about a 360 with a little help from Marut Custom Interior Woodworking in recreating some great new paneling and wood work that one would imagine had always been part of this magnificent home.

Antique Gold Leaf French Louis XVI Armchairs in the living area, by English Country Antiques paired with Coffee Table, Étagère and Squared Shelved Lamp Table by Baker, a Lucite table by Donghia, Round Lamp Table by Profiles 200 and a Fufu Stool in White by NOA Living on the Stark rug.

Before Pictures

A Chesney’s fireplace acts as a central focal point and helps establish the layout of the room...

The Dedar silk drapery with Samuel & Sons trim are a beautiful frame around the window off of the little working nook, with a desk by Dakota Jackson & Desk Chair Reagan Hayes covered in a leopard print by Scalamandre just gives that final touch of glamour.

With the final touch of a glam added by the gold leaf plaster ceiling, by I-Faux-Professional Decorative Finishes, Inc.,  and a strong pattern added by a Niedermaier folding screen, which I loved seeing as I have a special love for screens in any design scheme.

Eve Robinson welcomes the Modern Family into this comfortable lounge, with a neutral palette and layers of textures especially highlighted by the Kyle Bunting Custom Hide Rug in Silver designed by Britto Charette.

A custom built in / fireplace makes a strong statement and unifies the two areas of this room.
I love the metal details by Material Process Systems, Inc and the simplicity in the overall design - even though there is really nothing 'simple' about it.

The work of pulling it all together was done by the fabulous team at Silver Lining that I have had the pleasure of working with on my own interior design projects and HIGHLY recommend.

 R. 20th Century glass pendants hang above the occasional table by Avenue Road with the Games table cord chairs. Perfect for a late afternoon coffee, as well as a family meal.

No detail was left to chance in this room, and every design detail was woven into the tone on tone design scheme so effortlessly.. just a really great overall scheme that made this space very comfortable and chic.

Almost too good to eat!

A final touch of sparkle added by the Suzan Etkin Inc.Silver Hand Blown Glass Logs left to shimmer in the fireplace as you walk out onto the balcony .. or should I say "Outdoor Spa" above the Upper East Side rooftops .. a true New York Luxury.

This space was conceived by WCA, West Chin Architects, who was so lovely to speak with as he explained the need for this outdoor haven among the hustle and bustle of city living.

X-tra Large Freestanding Tub by AF|NY, with DaVinci Collection Floor Mounted Tub Filler

A stunning BirdHouse was designed especially for this project by FTF Design Studio, and a little highlight not only for those attending, but for the flying friends that added a little touch of music as they played in their new home.

A collaboration between West Chin, with 3 Form, "Beam" by Inter-Lux on the brushed aluminum outdoor rated wall mount fixture adds the sound of water in this fish pond -
the finishing touch to the serenity of this outdoor space.

Please visit again tomorrow as I continue to share more from Kips Bay!

The Designer Showhouse of Westchester - Part 4

In the heart of Scarsdale, one stately home has been transformed by 20 leading interior designers in this year's Third Annual Designer Showhouse of Westchester, which benefits "Cerebral Palsy of Westchester".

The magnificent 1915 mansion on 2 Cooper Road in Scarsdale, New York is a must for anyone that adores Design, and my coverage continues today with many more rooms by several very talented designers.

Susan Anthony and Mariana Olanow, of Anthony and Olanow Design Group, showcased a very calming Bedroom with a corner fireplace and ensuite bathroom in royal blue.

Karen Houghton and Leila Kharem of Karen Houghton Interiors brought this Library with its exquisite existing "boiserie" into the 21st century with a touch of modern art, Kravet furniture in warm neutral tones.
It was such a comfortable space, I could imagine spending a nice afternoon reading here..

George Snead of the Wakefield Design Center, took on one the most challenging rooms in the house and won,.. as it came with an existing bar, in pretty bad shape, right in the center of the two spaces.

Jacqueline Hosford completed the Master Sitting Room also made use of mirrors, soft layering of textures on the flooring, and royal blues and grays to complete the look

Hope you enjoyed the coverage of this showhouse.. a few more showhouses still to come on the blog this month - Kips Bay and the Junior League Showhouse in Greensboro.

Head over to the earlier posts, Part 1, Part 2, or Part 3 here, in case you missed any of them.

The Designer Showhouse of Westchester - Part 3

In the heart of Scarsdale, one stately home has been transformed by 20 leading interior designers in this year's Third Annual Designer Showhouse of Westchester, which benefits "Cerebral Palsy of Westchester".

The magnificent 1915 mansion on 2 Cooper Road in Scarsdale, New York is a must for anyone that adores Design, and my coverage continues today with many more rooms by several very talented designers.

Elissa Grayer transforms a basement into a great family room, with Bar, Pool table and fireplace. Great mirrors on the windows add a great detail to the light and reflection in the space, with whimsical art and wallcoverings on the fireplace and throughout are clever and elegant in their selection.

The lovely Donna Benedetto welcomed us into her Upper Floor Games Room, in crisp cool white and gray tones..

Custom bookcases, a bar cart, textured and elaborate art work including that of her own creation - a mixed media piece encrusted with semiprecious stones.. and a glass "ping-pong" table that make for a very "grown up" and sophisticated games room. No kids allowed!

Debra Funt made use of two patterned wall coverings in this Bedroom in the most unexpected way, and to much success!
Truly brought in the flowers and foliage from the windows with use of the fabrics and nature inspired wallpaper from Romo, as well as new fabrics from their collections as well!

Leslie Dunn and Ann Tighe transform this private home office space, using texture and warm tones and my favorite Noir bookcases.

More of this showhouse to feature on the blog tomorrow, but in the meantime, (and especially with this weather) what better way to spend your day then visiting this showhouse in the heart of Scarsdale?
In case you missed Part 1, head over there now. and Part 2.
